If you have a pet, it is very important that you find a good veterinary surgery to register your pet with. Ideally, don’t wait until your pet is ill or requires veterinary attention before you register them as this can cause delays. You can of course move vets, so if you register with one but are not happy with them or move out of the area, you can simply move to another vets.

When choosing a vet, you need to think about how far away they are from your home. Ideally you want to chose one that is not too far in case you have to go there in an emergency. Often people base their choice on recommendations but also on prices. Some vets can vary quite a lot in prices that they charge. You can even find some vets that are run by charities that offer free consultations. This is great as it means people don’t put off taking their sick pets to the vets because they cannot afford to.

If you are not happy with the service your vet is providing then you can always go elsewhere for a second opinion although you will often need to pay for this.
