How to keep your dog cool over the summer months
The weather has been creeping up in temperature over the last few weeks and this although may have been pleasant for some of us, may not be so pleasant for your dog. Lots of dogs do not like the heat as their furry coats often make them already feel warmer than we do, so only a few degrees can make them feel warm. It is important to keep your dog cool during the summer months not only to ensure that he or she is comfortable but also that they are safe. A dog can very quickly become over heated and as they don’t sweat, they find it hard to lose the heat.
Never leave a dog in a car on a hot day even with the window slightly open. You may be surprised at how quickly the temperature can rise in a car to a dangerous level.
At home, be sure that your dog always has somewhere cool to lie. It may be that they like to be with you if you are sat outside, if this is the case then pop up a parasol or create a makeshift den for them to lie in out of the sun. You can buy cooling mats to help your pet keep cool which can be really nice in the warm weather.
