Keeping your pet entertained
Many pet owners are aware of the need to provide some form of stimulation for their pets to prevent them becoming bored and possibly destructive around the house or in their cage or hutch. So, whether you have a Doberman or a Dachshund, a Burmese or a Bengal, a Dwarf Lop or a Dutch you will need to think about keeping them entertained.
The toys and activities you provide for your pet should be challenging enough to keep their attention and can often result in them gaining a small treat of some kind. For example, for dogs there are lots of toys that require them to roll or push a part of the toy to get their reward. The dog needs to first work out what to do then carry out an action to release the treat.
Cats enjoy chasing things and so this can be encouraged by providing toys that move in some way. Having a scratching pole is a good way to protect your furniture from being damaged and if sprayed with some catnip the cat will enjoy the experience even more.
Keeping small animals such as rabbits, guinea pigs and hamsters entertained is just as important for their quality of life. It is essential to provide them with a way of exercising such as putting them in a run regularly or making sure their cage has a wheel, ladders or tubes for them to use.
