Should you splash out on dog and cat food?
When it comes to choosing the food for your pets you may feel a little overwhelmed with the choice. Dogs for example can have wet food, dried food or a mixture of both and all come in different flavours and varieties. You can buy a 5kg bag of dog food from your local super market for around £4 or you can go to a pet shop or a specialist on line and pay fifteen to twenty pounds on a bag the same size. As with human food, pet food varies in quality and ingredients. Cheaper food tends to be billed out with wheat for example and contains less of the expensive ingredients such as meat. The more expensive brands tend to state that they use better quality ingredients and that the food is more natural and doesn’t contain as many, if any, additives. Some foods have vitamins added in to help with the dogs digestion system, joints or condition in general. It can be really hard to know which food to choose as without looking at the ingredients yourself you can never be sure if you something more expensive is actually any better for your pet than the cheaper version.
