Selecting holiday accommodation for your cat!
If you and your family enjoy going on holiday a couple of times a year and you are not lucky enough to have a friend or a neighbour who can look after your cat while you are away, then you must not overlook the cost of placing your cat in a local cattery while you are away. At time of writing, you will need to allow about £7.50/£8.00 per night. If you have more than one cat, there may be a small discount for cats that are happy to share the same pen.
Any cattery, which is concerned about its reputation and the animals in its care, will insist that your pet is vaccinated against Feline Flu and Enteritis. You will need to show proof of current vaccination certificates from your cat’s vet.
Do have a look around a prospective cattery first, if you wish to. Sleeping areas should be clean, warm and spacious and there should be easy, but secure access to an outside run of some kind. If you want to board your cat over the winter months, you may find an extra charge for heating. A reputable cattery should hold up to date insurance certificates and local authority licences which should be on display. Cat food is usually included in the price and you should be able to ensure that your cat has its food preferences taken into account as good catteries will stock a selection of brands of tinned and dry food.
Do bear in mind that the most popular catteries can get very busy during school summer holidays and bank holiday weekends and you would be well advised to book in plenty of time to ensure that your cat gets the holiday accommodation that you want.
